Bluetooth is an open protocol for exchanging wireless data over short distances(10 meters). The Bluetooth protocol is designed for rapid file transfer between devices. It provides a secure way to connect and exchange information between devices such as faxes, mobile phones, computers, printers and various peripherals
ANT+ is a wireless communications protocol that enables devices to communicate over short distances(10 meters). ANT+ is similar to Bluetooth in that it allows for wireless transmission of data over short distances. The advantage of ANT+ is that it is a low power consumption device. ANT+ can be configured to spend long periods in a low power "sleep" mode. ANT+ transceivers using coin cell-type batteries can operate up to three years in low use applications. The transceivers are embedded in equipment such as heart rate monitors, watches and scales.
Wi-Fi is a networking technology that allows devices to communicate without wires. It has a longer communications range than Bluetooth and ANT+(100 meters). It is most commonly used to connect devices to the internet. A Wi-Fi enabled device such as a personal computer, video game console, smartphone or digital audio player can connect to the Internet when within range of a wireless network connected to the Internet. Due to reach requirements for wireless LAN applications, Wi-Fi has fairly high power consumption compared to some other standards such as Bluetooth and ANT+.

Tanita's radio wireless products using ANT+ technology offer two options. Select products are able to "link" to the receiving device by pairing with a serial number. This allows multiple scales and software programs or devices to be used in a close proximity at the same time without cross-talk or interference from other ANT+ signals. Non-pairing products, like the BC-1000, can be accessed from any device, watch, software, or handheld in range by connecting to the first one that sends a connecting signal. It will then block out any interfering signals until the measurement is completed, then it goes back into open listening mode.

Tanita's ANT+ radio wireless products offer two types of data protocol. First, Open Protocol allows all of the data from that scale to be transmitted and received from any device with software capable of receiving the data. The BC1100F is Open Protocol ANT+. Any device can be programmed to activate and receive the body composition data from the BC1100F and Weight Only measurements from all other ANT+ products. The BC1000 is a Closed Protocol ANT+ signal. Tanita protects its proprietary algorithms by encrypting the data being sent from the BC1000 to your receiving device. This offers maximum security for the protection of your data, as well as maintains integrity in the quality of product Tanita provides its customers.
